Sustainability from three perspectives
In our ambitions to offer sustainable and customer-oriented solutions, Skebo bases its sustainability work on three pillars: social, economic and ecological sustainability. These shall permeate our entire business, and it is important that there is an interaction between the three pillars.
Social sustainability
Skebo shall offer housing for people at all stages of life, and the range of housing is varied: everything from youth apartments and student rooms to senior housing and sheltered housing. To strengthen social sustainability, we place great focus on adaptations for accessibility and to facilitate social interaction between tenants. We have a large number of venues, which our tenants can use to meet and also rent for private parties. For our tenants to feel involved, we work with Housing Committees, which work to enhance well-being and safety and security by coordinating activities with tenants. Every year, a number of Viewpoint Meetings and Safety Walks are arranged, which give tenants opportunities to be involved in the development of our residential areas. Skebo also works to make it easier for unemployed young people to enter the labour market, by hiring seasonal workers to paint and renovate our residential areas.
Economic sustainability
As a public housing company, Skebo must be businesslike in everything we do. This means that we must develop our business on a commercial basis. In addition to economising to create a good economy, we must also provide fair conditions for our tenants. Skebo works closely with the Hyresgästföreningen tenants’ association and negotiates all rent adjustments. For our new developments, we shall make wise investments, which right now primarily means building close to the city where demand is greatest. In addition, the market value of our newly produced homes should always correspond to the production cost, and the value shall correspond 1:1 with the investment.
Ecological sustainability
Skebo’s Environmental Policy states that environmental aspects shall always be taken into account in the company’s decisions. The goal of our environmental work is to offer healthy and environmentally friendly housing, while at the same time reducing the environmental impact of our properties. Examples of this include everything from recycling and waste management to making eco-friendly choices for new developments to reduce energy consumption and minimise adverse impact on the climate. Furthermore, we work constantly to develop our vehicle fleet in a positive direction with regard to the environment.
In addition to contributing to sustainable development, Skebo’s environmental work has also resulted in financial savings.
